RICHARD “HUNTING CROW” SPEER is a true Native American of the Southwest His education in many different styles of drumming and percussion began in 1966 when he majored in music at the Santa Rosa junior college while living at Haight and Ashbury in San Francisco, CA.

He learned his first beat on the Congas from Pete Valasquez, who drummed for Carlos Santana in the 1960’s. He later traveled to Cuba to study Congas at the Cultural Center in Cien Fuegos, a region rich in Afro-Cuban percussion. Richard has lived and traveled throughout Mexico, California and the Pacific Northwest.
